History of Brinny Pitch & Putt Club formally
Castlelack Pitch & Putt Club

Pitch & Putt began in the locality in the mid 1980's in Castlelack.
The McCarthy family very kindly let their lawn to the local community to develop a 9 hole course which was used for 11 months of the year.

A committee was formed and the course was built. The Castlelack Club was then registered with the Pitch & Putt Union of Ireland.

The game became very popular, membership grew, parking became a problem and there were no club facilities. As the club was very active the Cork County Board of Pitch & Putt encouraged them to purchase land to develop an 18 hole course. This was an impossibility as the club had very little funds available.

It was the brain child of club officers Christy and Marie Shiels to approach the nearby American Pharmaceutical Company, Schering Plough, Brinny with the idea of leasing 6 acres in order to develop the 18 hole course. Following a meeting of Schering Plough management and Club officers an agreement was made. A beautiful hillside southerly facing site was chosen over looking the Brinny, Upton and Kilpatrick valley. The club members took on the huge task of building the course with automatic sprinkling system, club facilities and car park.

In 1993 the Brinny Club was registered with PPUI. On the 17th March 1993 there was great excitement when Club Captain Christy Shiels Teed off for the 1st game on the new course. The club has gone from strength to strength with members competing at local, county and national level. The Club Open is held every July. The course is open for green fees and there is always a great welcome for visiting clubs.
